Liverpool have launched an €18m (£15m) move for Dnipro winger Yevhen Konoplyanka, who has also been attracting interest from rivals Arsenal this winter, according to various reports today.

Konoplyanka is a pacey winger who was hugely impressive during Ukraine’s recent World Cup qualifiers against England, while he also found the back of the net with a long-range strike against the Three Lions in a friendly back in 2012.

This has led to speculation of a move to the Premier League with the 24-year-old linked with a whole host of English clubs in recent weeks, with Arsenal and Liverpool among those understood to have been keeping a close eye on his progress.

It seems Brendan Rodgers has made the first move to try and land the talented attacker with the Mirror one of several media outlets reporting today that the Merseysiders have opened talks with Dnipro over a €18m (£15m) deal.

The newspaper suggests the Ukrainian outfit are reluctant to let the player leave during this transfer window but may find it difficult to turn down the Reds offer.

The news comes after Rodgers admitted after Tuesday nights 4-0 win over Everton that he hoped to make a major signing before the window closes on Friday night, telling reporters:

“We are hoping to make a major signing before the window closes, we hope to do business in the next day or so.” Rodgers is quoted as saying by the Mirror.

Konoplyanka has been with Dnipro since he was a child and has made 157 appearances for the club, scoring 33 goals and providing 23 assists during that time.

While he’s more adept at playing on the left wing, his versatility is sure to be appealing to Liverpool as he’s capable of playing anywhere across the attacking third of the pitch, so will give the Northern Irishman plenty of options if he does end up making the move to Anfield.

It seems Liverpool have made their move for Konoplyanka after missing out on the signing of Mohamed Salah to Chelsea, and he’d certainly be an exciting purchase if the club can pull it off. The Reds are in a strong position to finish in the top four this season and get the club back into the big time on a European stage, and it appears Rodgers is keen on adding to his attacking options to help get them over the line.
