Arsenal Handed Major Injury Boost As Bayern Confirm Ribery Will Miss London Trip

Arsenal have been handed a major injury boost ahead of their Champions League last 16 clash with Bayern Munich after Frank Ribery was ruled out for two weeks.

Ribery underwent surgery last Thursday to cure a burst blood vessel in his right buttock and boss Pep Guardiola was initially hopeful the winger would be fit in time to face Arsenal next Wednesday.

However, Munich has confirmed on their official website that following an examination today, it was decided that the 30-year-old won’t be able to return to training until next week and have ruled him out of making the trip to London for the last 16 first leg at the Emirates.

This news is obviously a huge boost to the Gunners as Ribery is one of the best players in Europe and would have posed a major threat next week, so we’re far better off facing Munich without him.

But it’s worth remembering the European champions still have an array of attacking talent available with the likes of Arjen Robben, Thomas Muller, Xherdan Shaqiri, Toni Kroos and Mario Gotze to fill the void left by the Frenchman.

It’s going to be a mammoth task to try and beat the Germans over two legs but we pushed them all the way last year, only going out on away goals, so hopefully we can go one better this time around.
