Barca Ditch Fabregas And Turn To Spurs’ Midfield Maestro

Written by Viorel Mesca.

Rumor has it that the Barcelona’s manager, Pep Guardiola, is keen on signing the diminutive playmaker in the summer of 2011. Both Elmundodeportivo and Sport have cited Daily Mail’s story that Modric could be Barcelona’s next star, as Pep seems fed up with Arsenal’s unwillingness to sell Fabregas. A fee in the region of €40 million is said to be used by the Spanish giants in order to secure the Croatian’s services.

Sir Alex Ferguson, one of Croatian’s biggest admirers, is also keen to bring the playmaker to United. Modric joined Spurs in the summer of 2008, for a fee in the region of €20 million and helped the team achieve a Champions League spot at end of last year’s Premier League campaign. On May 30th 2010, Modric was awarded with a new 6 year contract, that runs until 2016.

“The Croatian Cruyff” said after the deal:

“Tottenham Hotspur gave me my chance in the Premier League and I want to go on to achieve great success here with them. Yes, there have been enquiries from other big clubs, but I have no interest in going anywhere. Last season’s Top 4 finish was an indication of where we are as a club and I feel I can continue to improve and go on to achieve everything I want to at Spurs”.

With both Sir Alex Ferguson and recently Pep Guardiola keen on signing him, Tottenham will have a difficult task keeping the player at White Hart Lane.

Dear readers, do you think Modric will move to Barcelona next summer? Can Sir Alex Ferguson convince him to come to Old Trafford? Should the player leave Spurs, who do you think will be his replacement?
