Frank Lampard to return this weekend at Anfield

Written by Ross Mackiewicz

Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that Frank Lampard will make his return from injury this weekend at Liverpool as his Chelsea side visit Anfield. The Blues talisman has been out of action since the end of August following hernia surgery  – subsequently causing his longest stint out of action during his professional career.

Ancelotti was speaking ahead of the Champions League tie with Spartak Moscow where he confirmed that the England man will make his long awaited return to action after he resumed training with his peers.

“Lampard started training with the team this week.” said the 51-year old.

“I don’t think he will be ready for Wednesday (against Spartak Moscow) but for the next game in the Premier League, against Liverpool.”

Lampard’s return is a huge boost for the champions although their form without him has been pretty unprecedented. Despite a blip in Eastlands where they succumbed to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester City, they have been rampant thus far and hope to cement their place in the last sixteen of the Champions League with victory over Spartak Moscow tomorrow night.
