Arsenal Transfer News: Wenger Eyeing Moves For Chambers + Jung

Arsenal are keen on Southampton’s Calum Chambers and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Sebastian Jung as boss Arsene Wenger lines-up potential replacements for Bacary Sagna

The January transfer window may have slammed shut but clubs will still be working hard behind the scenes at identifying targets for the summer, so we’ll bring you all the latest news, gossip and rumours. Today, Gooner Mac brings us news of interest in Calum Chambers and Sebastian Jung.

Arsenal are showing a keen interest in Southampton’s Calum Chambers and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Sebastian Jung as boss Arsene Wenger lines-up potential replacements for Bacary Sagna, according to the Telegraph.

Sagna is out of contract in June and has so far been unable to agree terms over an extension, so it’s understandable Arsene has been making contingency plans in-case the 31-year-old leaves the club on a free at the end of the season.

We’ve been linked with a whole host of names in recent months but the Telegraph claim we’re interested in signing Southampton’s highly-rated defender Calum Chambers, who’s been hugely impressive since breaking into the Saints first team earlier this season.

The 19-year-old signed a new four-year deal at St Mary’s last summer and the ambitious South Coast club would be reluctant sellers, but the newspaper suggests that they would be persuaded to cash in if a bid of £10m was tabled.

The report also claims the boss is interested in Sebastian Jung. The 23-year-old has been a key player for Frankfurt this season but is expected to leave the Bundesliga strugglers at the end of the campaign and a move to the Emirates could be on the cards.

Wenger has certainly been showing an admiration for Germans in recent years, so Jung could join compatriot’s Per Mertesacker, Lukas Podolski, Mesut Ozil and Serge Gnabry in north London this summer if the boss decides he’s the man to replace Sagna.

I still hold out hope that Sagna will sign a new deal as he’s shown again this season that he’s a reliable right-back who’s still able to perform at the highest level, so if he does leave we’re going to have a huge void to fill.

Chambers is an exciting youngster but I feel it’s vital that if Sagna does go, we need to bring in an experienced replacement who’ll be ready to come in and command a first team place straight away. Jung is also relatively inexperienced at the highest level, but at least he’s been a first team regular at Frankfurt for some time and is also now breaking into the German national team, so my preference would be him out of the two mentioned in this article.

Of all the right-back’s we’ve been linked with recently my first choice would be Seamus Coleman from Everton, but as was reported earlier it looks like Manchester United might have beaten us to it.
