Man City have been dealt a huge injury blow ahead of this weekends vital game against Arsenal with playmaker David Silva a major doubt with an ankle injury

Manchester City have been dealt a huge injury blow ahead of this weekends vital game against Arsenal with playmaker David Silva a major doubt with an ankle injury, according to the Mirror.

Silva played a key role in City’s 3-0 win over rivals Manchester United on Tuesday night and although the 28-year-old came though the full 90 minutes at Old Trafford, it appears he picked up a knock.

The Mirror claim the Spaniard complained of feeling pain in his ankle immediately after the game and has been having intense treatment to try and get him fit for the trip to the capital tomorrow.

Arsenal welcome their fellow title-challengers to the Emirates for Saturday’s 5.30pm evening kick-off and City are prepared to wait until the last minute before deciding on Silva’s involvement, but it seems he’s a major doubt at present.

His loss would come as a huge blow to the Citizens as they try to not only put further day-light between them and fourth-placed Arsenal, but also take a major step in their quest for the title this season.

City are currently third in the table and just three points behind leaders Chelsea with two games in hand, so a win over one of their rivals this weekend would make Manuel Pellegrini’s men the firm favourites to lift the title this season.

However, it looks like they may have to do it without the services of Silva and if they playmaker is ruled out, he’ll join Sergio Aguero on the sidelines with the Argentinean still nursing a hamstring problem.
