Arsenal Transfer News: Battle On To Land £6m Ace | Wenger Back In For £10m Striker

Latest Arsenal transfer news: Arsene Wenger faces a fight to sign a £6m defender while the Frenchman is also eyeing a renewed bid to sign a £10m-rated striker

As we approach the business end of the season clubs are starting to make plans for the summer transfer market so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Gooner Mac brings us news of Arsenal’s interest in Serge Aurier and Kirko Vucinic.

Gunners face fight for Aurier

First up and the Sun are reporting that Arsenal will now face stiff competition from Aston Villa and Newcastle for the signature of £6m-rated right-back Serge Aurier.

The Ivory Coast international has been impressing at Toulouse again this season and the newspaper claims he has made clear he wants a new challenge this summer with the Ligue 1 club valuing him at around £6m.

Arsenal have long been linked with the 21-year-old and with Bacary Sagna’s contract set to expire in June and no sign of an extension being signed, Aurier has been touted as a possible replacement.

However, while the Sun believe that Villa and Newcastle are ready to rival us to his signature, the fact Aurier is a self-confessed Gooner means we remain the heavy favourites to sign him.

The defender has previously posted pictures of himself wearing Arsenal shirts (photos can be seen here) on Twitter while his team-mates gave him an Arsenal kit for his birthday in December, so if Wenger wants him to replace Sagna and we can agree a deal with Toulouse, I’m confident Aurier will choose the Emirates over pretty-much any other team.

Arsene back in for Vucinic

Next and talkSPORT have a rather depressing report that claims Arsene Wenger is ready to renew his interest in Juventus striker Mirko Vucinic this summer.

We were linked with the Montenegro international in January when we were desperately trying to sign a front-man on loan, and a short-term move for the experienced Vucinic made a lot of sense back then.

A move failed to materialise but talkSPORT suggest that Arsene hasn’t given up hope of signing the 30-year-old hitman and will make another attempt to bring him to the Emirates on a permanent basis at the end of the season, with Juventus supposedly valuing him at £10m.

If true, this will be hugely disappointing. Vucinic is a decent enough striker but with the money understood to be available to the boss this summer, I think we should be aiming a lot higher than buying one of Juve’s cast-off’s.

He’s only started 4 league games for the Serie A champions this season and is now the wrong side of 30. Arsenal are not at a stage where we need to be trying to bring in world class talent, not signing circa £10m-rated players who are approaching the end of their careers, so I hope nothing comes of this.
