Liverpool have been handed a major injury boost ahead of Sunday’s crucial clash against Chelsea with Daniel Sturridge set to return from a hamstring injury, according to the LiverpoolEcho.

Sturridge missed last weeks 3-2 win over Norwich City at Carrow Road with a hamstring problem that he picked up against Manchester City two weeks ago when he was forced off midway through the second half.

However, the Liverpool Echo claim the injury is not as serious as initially feared and the 24-year-old is now expected to return to full training with the rest of the squad today and be in contention to face the Blues this weekend.

The former Chelsea striker appeared at a Q&A session with local schoolchildren on Wednesday as part of the clubs new partnership with Subway, and he remained coy when asked by one of the kids when he would return from his injury, simply saying he was ‘hopeful’ it would be this weekend.

While Liverpool still picked up another three points last weekend with a hard fought 3-2 win over Norwich, the return of Sturridge – who has 23 goals to his name this season – would be a major boost for Brendan Rodgers ahead of what’s being billed as a potential title-decider.

The Reds head into the weekend sitting five points clear of their nearest rivals with just three games remaining, so victory over Jose Mourinho’s men would put them within touching distance of their first league title in 24 years.

A draw would also leave it in their own hands, but defeat could potentially see third placed Manchester City snatch the title on goal difference should they win all their remaining games.
