Man Utd are confident they can secure a £54m deal for Edinson Cavani and a £30m deal for Luke Shaw, while they are also lining-up a bid for Cesc Fabregas.

They may not have a manager, but that doesn’t seem to be stopping Manchester United from pressing ahead with their ambitious summer transfer plans. According to reports today, the deposed Premier League champions are confident they can secure a £54m deal for PSG super-star Edinson Cavani and a £30m deal for Southampton’s Luke Shaw, while they are also lining-up a renewed bid for Cesc Fabregas.

The Daily Star claim that United chiefs flew to France last week for talks over the potential signing of Cavani and although the South American was reluctant to make the move while David Moyes was still at the helm, the Red Devils are understood to be confident a record £54m deal can be agreed now the Scot has been sacked.

United’s future looked bleak with Moyes in charge but there is renewed hope among the fans that they can soon be back challenging for trophies now his disastrous stint as boss has come to an abrupt end, and it should also help them attract major signings this summer.

A player like Cavani would certainly lift the mood around Old Trafford even further and the 27-year-old confirmed earlier this month that he plans to have talks with PSG officials at the end of the season after being left frustrated at having to play out of position to accommodate Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The potential £54m acquisition of Cavani could be followed by the £30m purchase of Luke Shaw with the Guardian newspaper claiming that United are now on the verge of completing a move for the Southampton teenager after offering him a five-year deal worth £100,000-a-week.

With Patrice Evra set to leave when his contract expires in June a new left-back is needed and there haven’t been many as impressive as Shaw this season, and he’s no doubt attracted to the idea of getting regular first team football at United.

And the big-money buys might not stop there as the Daily Star also suggests that United are ready to renew their interest in Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas after failing to lure him away from the Nou Camp last summer.

United saw several bids rejected and with left frustrated as the 26-year-old refused to go public with his desire to move in fear of upsetting the local fans. However, Fabregas is continuing to be played out of his favoured position at Barca and has been subject to jeers from the stands this season, so United could be encouraged that they might have more luck this time around.

It’s gearing up to be an exciting summer in the transfer market and United are certainly likely to be one of the most active clubs as they look to rebuild their squad after a monumental fall from grace this season.

However, while it’s no doubt exciting for the fans to see them linked with big-money players, the fact they are unable to offer Champions League football is surely going to hamper their attempts to sign the likes of Cavani and Fabregas. United are still one of the biggest clubs in the world and a big attraction for elite players, but I’d be majorly surprised if they are able to sign those two, despite what the newspapers are reporting.
