Man Utd Team News: Giggs Confirms Key Duo Will Miss Norwich Clash But Evra Returns

Ryan Giggs gave a team news update today and confirmed that a key duo will miss tomorrow’s game with Norwich but Patrice Evra is available after a knee injury

Manchester United begin the post David Moyes era when they welcome Norwich City to Old Trafford on Saturday evening.

Ryan Giggs was in front of the media this morning for his first press conference since being installed as interim manager until the end of the season and among a wide variety of topics discussed, the Welshman gave the latest team news ahead of the game tomorrow.

Overall the squad is in good health and Giggs says they have been training well this week so he’ll have a wealth of talent to choose from when he selects his first starting line-up.

However, unfortunately the 40-year-old confirmed to ManUtd.com that he won’t be able to call upon the services of Rafael or Robin van Persie for the game as the duo continue to miss out through injury.

Rafael has been missing in recent weeks with an ongoing hamstring problem and it appears the Brazilian is no closer to returning to action. In his absence, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones are likely to battle-it-out for the right-back spot.

Van Persie has also been on the sidelines since picking up a knee injury during the closing stages of Man Utd’s 3-0 win over Olympiakos last month. The striker has been undergoing his rehabilitation back in Holland recently and is in a race against time to return before the end of the season, although his World Cup hopes are not thought to be in doubt.

The good news is that it looks like Patrice Evra is fit to return having missed last weeks 2-0 defeat at Everton with a knee injury, so the Frenchman is likely to come back in to replace Alex Buttner at left-back.
