Carlos Vela has opened the door to a potential return to Arsenal after revealing the North Londoners can buy him back for just £3.3m this summer, according to reports today.

Vela was sold to Real Sociedad in 2011 after failing to make the breakthrough at Arsenal during his six-year stay at the Emirates Stadium. The Mexican international made just 62 appearances for the club, scoring 11 goals, and was frequently sent out on loan to try and gain some much-needed first team experience.

However, the 25-year-old has really found his form in Spain and has scored an impressive 40 goals and provided 27 assists during his 104 league appearances since his move in 2011.

Vela’s form has seen him linked with several top clubs throughout Europe, not least Arsenal who have kept a close eye on his progress in La Liga, and now the player has opened the door to a potential cut-price move back to North London.

Speaking to Radio Marca in Spain, the striker confirmed he’s considering his future and while any interested party would have to pay his £29.5m release clause, Vela has revealed that Arsenal have a buy-back clause that could see them re-sign him for the bargain price of just £3.3m and he’s confirmed he won’t ‘close the door’ on a return to the Gunners.

‘One possibility is my clause of €30million (£24.6m), but there’s other options and we’re looking at that, to see what we can and can’t do,’

‘Arsenal can come back for me at €4million (£3.3m) at any time, which is €1million more than Real Sociedad paid. I look at things differently these days and I won’t close the door on Arsenal, or any team in England. I think I’m better prepared to play in another country now.’ Vela is quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.

Arsenal are expected to be in the market for striking reinforcements this summer with Arsene Wenger overly relent on Olivier Giroud this season. Vela is capable of playing anywhere across the front line and out wide so he’d certainly give us plenty of options if he was to make the move back to the club this summer.

The Mexican international has blossomed in Spain, however I think that league suits his style far more than the Premier League so I’d still have my concerns over whether he’d be able to cut it here in England if Wenger did decide to trigger the buy-back clause.
