Chelsea Team News: Mourinho Confirms Triple Injury Blow Ahead Of Cardiff Test

Chelsea will finish off their Premier League season with a trip to Wales to take on Cardiff City on Sunday afternoon.

While their title hopes have now evaporated, the Blues can still finish second if they beat Cardiff and Liverpool slip up against Newcastle United at Anfield, but Jose Mourinho will just be concentrating on finishing the season on a high note and seeing where they end up.

The Portuguese coach has been speaking at his pre-match press conference today and gave Chelseafc.com a team news update where he confirmed he’ll be without three of his most experienced players this weekend.

Jose revealed that Frank Lampard is currently in bed ill so unless he makes a miraculous recovery over the next 24 hours, the 35-year-old is not expected to travel to Wales on Saturday.

Striker Samuel Eto’o is also unlikely to feature after picking up an injury in training this morning and he’ll also be joined on the sidelines by John Terry after the skipper suffered a knock on Thursday. Mourinho didn’t categorically rule the duo out, but it sounds highly unlikely they’ll be in contention.

He told the clubs website:

‘Frank Lampard is ill, he’s in bed. If today Frank is in bed I don’t think he will come tomorrow with conditions to travel.

‘Samuel Eto’o got an injury in training today and John Terry got a little thing yesterday. Normally all of them will be out.’

Should, as expected, Lampard and Terry miss out this weekend, there’s a chance the duo could have played their last game for Chelsea. Both veterans are out-of-contract this summer and are yet to agree extensions, although Mourinho has hinted he hopes to see the pair, along with Ashley Cole, all extend their stay at Stamford Bridge.
