Arsenal have confirmed this evening that Laurent Koscielny has ended speculation over his future by signing a new long-term contract with the club.

The French international has continued his excellent form this season and forged a superb partnership at the back alongside Per Mertesacker, with the duo helping keep 15 clean sheets in 31 Premier League games so far this season.

His impressive displays have led to speculation he could be set for a big-money move abroad with the likes of PSG, Monaco and Bayern Munich all reportedly keen on luring him away from North London.

However, the 28-year-old has ended uncertainty surrounding his future with Arsenal confirming on Arsenal.com this evening that the centre-back has penned a new long-term contract extension at the club.

Boss Arsene Wenger was understandably delighted to see him defensive rock commit his future to the club, telling the clubs website:

“Laurent has proven himself to be an outstanding player since joining us in 2010 and has showed his quality once again this season. I am delighted he has decided to commit his future to the Club.”

Koscielny also said he was proud to have signed his new deal and looks forward to continuing with the Gunners:

“I am very proud to have reached agreement with the Club on a new contract. I have enjoyed four great years at Arsenal already, and I look forward to continuing to help the team in the years to come.”

Koscielny moved to the Emirates from Lorient in 2010 and has gone on to play more than 160 times for the club over the past four years. It’s obviously a major boost to see him sign a new deal and he follows several other squad players to have committed their future to the club in recent months.

Santi Cazorla, Serge Gnabry, Per Mertesacker, Aaron Ramsey, Tomas Rosicky, Wojciech Szczesny and Gedion Zelalem have all been rewarded with new deals recently, proving that Arsenal are determined to tie their players down to try and avoid any more situations like we’re seeing with Bacary Sagna.

The Frenchman is out-of-contract in the summer and looks increasingly likely to leave the club on a free transfer, which is going to leave a huge void to fill in the squad. Hopefully Sagna will follow suit and sign a new deal but for now at least Koscielny’s future has now been secured.
