Van Persie Starts: Predicted Man Utd Starting XI To Face Southampton

Manchester United will look to end a disappointing season on a high note when they take on Southampton at St Mary’s on Sunday afternoon. Here is our predicted line-up for the game.

Ryan Giggs is expected to once again rotate his team and could revert Chris Smalling to right-back with Rafael still struggling with injury. This would allow Rio Ferdinand to come back in at centre-back alongside Nemanja Vidic with both Phil Jones and Jonny Evans also out injured.

Darren Fletcher was left out in midweek so could get a recall alongside Michael Carrick in midfield while Juan Mata is almost certain to start having not featured against Hull last time out.

Ashley Young could be set for a run-out but Shinji Kagawa and Adnan Januzaj are also pushing for recalls. Youngster James Wilson enjoyed a dream debut with a brace against Hull on Tuesday and although it may be harsh to drop him, we think Giggs will bring Robin van Persie back in to the starting eleven this weekend. It’s one thing for a young kid to play at home, but it will be an entirely different prospect for him leading the line away at the Saints.

Here’s the side we think Giggs will go with on Sunday:
