‘A Sad Day’ – Arsenal + Spurs Fans React On Twitter After Sherwood Sacking

Here are the best Tweets as Arsenal and Tottenham fans react on Twitter to the news that Tim Sherwood has been sacked as Spurs head coach this afternoon.

Tottenham Hotspur confirmed this afternoon that Tim Sherwood has been relieved of his duties as head coach after just five months in charge.

Having previously filled several roles at White Hart Lane including Assistant First Team Coach in 2008, Technical Co-ordinator in 2010 and then Head of Football Development in 2012, Sherwood took over from Andre Villas-Boas as Head Coach in December following the Portuguese coaches sacking.

After being given an 18-month contract, Sherwood was tasked with steadying the ship and trying to push for qualification to the Champions League. However, defeats against their main rivals saw Spurs hopes fade and they eventually finished sixth in the table, qualifying for the Europa League next season.

It seems that hasn’t been enough to pacify Daniel Levy,  with the Charmain confirming on TottenhamHotspur.com today that the 45-year-old has been relieved of his duties after the club decided to exercise an option to terminate his contract this summer.

“We appointed Tim mid-season as someone who knew both the players and the Club.

“We agreed an 18-month contract with a break clause at the end of the season and we have now exercised that option.

“Moving forward, now the season is over, we shall embark on the process of finding a new Head Coach. We have a talented squad and exciting young players coming through. We need to build on this season, develop our potential and inspire the kind of performances that we associate with our great Club.”

Sherwood was certainly a divisive figure at Spurs, especially as he was a self-confessed Arsenal fan, with large sections of WHL support not accepting him as one of their own or enjoying his out-spoken ways in front of the media.

Some feel he’s been treated harshly as he ended up with a 59% win percentage – better than both Andre Villas-Boas (54%) and Harry Redknapp (49%) – and wasn’t given time to build his own squad, while others will point to the fact that he actually had a higher loss percentage (35.7) than AVB (20%).

Understandably, his sacking has caused quite a stir on Twitter, with both Arsenal and Spurs fans having their say on his departure. Here are some of the best tweets from the north London faithful:
