The New Henry? Wenger ‘Hopeful’ Of Completing £8m Striker Deal

By on May 19, 2014

As we approach the opening of the summer window clubs will be intensifying their efforts in the transfer market so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Gooner Mac brings us news of Arsenal’s interest in Loic Remy.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger wants to sign ‘two to three’ players and is hopeful of sealing an £8m deal to sign Queens Park Rangers striker Loic Remy this summer, according to the Guardian.

The French international has just enjoyed an excellent season-long loan at Newcastle United where he scored 14 goals in 26 appearances to help the Geordies to a mid-table finish in the Premier League.

His impressive form has understandably led to interest from several clubs and Arsenal have been strongly linked with the 27-year-old in recent months as Arsene Wenger looks to bring in a proven goal-scorer to add depth to our strike-force next season.

It seems we’re finally ready to make our interest official as the Guardian claim that the boss is now ‘hopeful’ of completing the signing of Remy and is willing to meet the £8m fee that would trigger a buy-out clause in the strikers contract.

QPR may wish to keep hold of the player if they successfully gain promotion back to the Premier League by beating Derby in the final of the Championship play-offs on Saturday, but there is little they could do to prevent him leaving if a club like Arsenal meets his buy-out fee.

Remy is likely to jump at the chance of moving to the Emirates as his idol is Thierry Henry and he’s been likened to the great man in the past. The obvious comparison is the fact they are French, have bags of pace and play up front, but Remy would do well to emulate just a fraction of what TH14 did in Arsenal colours.

The former Marseille hitman could be one of several signings this summer with Wenger confirming yesterday that he’ll be in the market for “two or three” players this summer, but that number could increase if the likes of Lukasz Fabianski and Bacary Sagna leave.

“First we have to wait for Sagna and see what he will do. Also Fabianski. Afterwards we have to bring in two or three players to strengthen the squad, that’s for sure. “

Unfortunately everywhere we go, there are many teams in the market at the moment.” Wenger is quoted as saying by the Express

Hopefully we’ll see at least a defensive midfielder, a winger and a striker brought in this summer as well as any replacements for players that may leave. Obviously we’d all like to see a marquee signing like Karim Benzema, but I actually think Remy could prove to be an astute signing.

If the boss has a tight budget and needs to save money to spend in other areas, picking up Remy for just £8m would be an excellent piece of business as he’s proven in the Premier League and would bring some much-needed pace to the squad.

Get rid of Bendtner and Park, that leaves us with 2 big target men (Giroud/Sanogo) then get Loic Remy for £8m!! and buy back Carlos Vela for £3m! Both of them can score and assist!! Plus cover on the wings… along with Podolski…we have 4 great forwards, all offering different qualities and a wonderkid… we don’t need to waste £40m on Benzema! We only need him to satisfy the glory supporters! Get way more value for money and just as many, if not more goals with Remy and Vela…
I’d also say, Barry is not a bad shout on a free! With Arteta, Flamini and Barry, that’s plenty of cover for Def Mid…plus we have Coquelin back from loan…
I would love to see Micah Richards at Arsenal to, change him from a RB to a super fast and strong CB…then bring in Serge Aurier as RB if Sagna leaves…
Then all we need is a back up GK…either some experienced keeper or someone to battle for number 1 spot if Fabianski goes…
    So for me…

    Back Up GK
    Micah Richards (CB/RB) £5m?
    Serge Aurier (RB/CB) £7m?
    Gareth Barry (DM/CM) FREE
    Carlos Vela (LW/ST) £3m?
    Loic Remy (ST/RW) £8m?

So for around £20/25m!! That’s is insane for the amount of quality you have there! The Arsenal squad would be complete! Plus even though we have the money, there is no point in spending all of it just because we can! £25m on the players I listed is all we need!
Would be nice to see a Benzena or a Martinez and maybe Bender instead of Barry! But then you add another £50m/60m…is there any point? Just paying for their big names!!

That’s an excellent opinion, mate, but that is not to discount the impact a big-name player would have at the Emirates. The buzz would be wonderful. Look at Mesut Ozil for example. He himself may not have played well enough given his price tag, but the lift he gave to the players he found at the club was immense

Therefore, Arsenal need a marquee signing. For me, if it is true that Cesc Fabregas is available for transfer, Arsenal would be insane to not sign him for a reported 23m inserted into the terms of his sale to his current employers. His return to a club where he enjoys a legendary status would be huge for the fans, for the club and for the players like Wilshere who has publicly called for his return.

Those signings would garauntee us 4th place. Great. If we want to win we need a better forward than backups to Giroud. Remy will be like Demba Ba at Chelsea. A waste of space. Our team is set except we need a Top DM, not Barry. We need a World Class striker, not Remy. Need someone who can take over a game. Cavani would be perfect but won’t happen. Benzema maybe. But we have 100m to spend let’s use it and get top players. Bench players r a waste of money if we want to actually win the league and get past the 2nd rd of Champ League

I agree with four of your five proposed signings. Richards, Aurier, Vela and Remy are all bargains and would undoubtedly add much needed strength and depth. But, in my opinion, Barry is a bit off the pace and getting on. I realise he’s on a free and so it seems like very good business, and would be typical of AFC. However, signing the four aforementioned players for under £25m leaves room for a special, big name purchase, and I reckon Javi Martinez fits the bill prefectly. He’s one of the best CDMs – a position in desperate need of improvement – and is allegedly unhappy at Bayern. £35m for a player like Martinez is money well spent and, along with those other four players, would allow Arsenal to launch a real title challenge with strength, depth and options in all positions.

    Dreaming 8 million
buy out clause has expired and it was never 8 million anyway would be great player for your lot but unless you pay at least 15 million and proper wages you have no chance .

RealG’s proposal makes heap of sense!
Frugal and wise spending is key!
Maybe throwing a ‘marquee’ striker as in Martinez, or the likes of Benzema, Pedro …. just to be seen to appease section of the ‘ardent fans crying for one’….but who may not be up to mark/hype to cost of the acquisition value must also considered and may prove a disappointment!

£8 million give me strength, other clubs are already offering £15 million, typical cheapo Arsenal never make it to the top because they wont pay the going rate and other clubs will.

Wilfred Boney not Benzima or Cavani. Maybe Carlos Vela or give Joel Campbell a go. A strong DM is needed and also a centre back of high quality with pace. I can see Boney Walcott Firoud Ozil abd Campbell as well as Ramsey; being strong enough to score the goals.

I read the title, saw a picture of Loic Remy, scrolled down to leave a comment. Not worth the read comparing Remy to the KING!
