Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger wants to sign ‘two to three’ players and is hopeful of sealing an £8m deal to sign Queens Park Rangers striker Loic Remy this summer, according to the Guardian.

The French international has just enjoyed an excellent season-long loan at Newcastle United where he scored 14 goals in 26 appearances to help the Geordies to a mid-table finish in the Premier League.

His impressive form has understandably led to interest from several clubs and Arsenal have been strongly linked with the 27-year-old in recent months as Arsene Wenger looks to bring in a proven goal-scorer to add depth to our strike-force next season.

It seems we’re finally ready to make our interest official as the Guardian claim that the boss is now ‘hopeful’ of completing the signing of Remy and is willing to meet the £8m fee that would trigger a buy-out clause in the strikers contract.

QPR may wish to keep hold of the player if they successfully gain promotion back to the Premier League by beating Derby in the final of the Championship play-offs on Saturday, but there is little they could do to prevent him leaving if a club like Arsenal meets his buy-out fee.

Remy is likely to jump at the chance of moving to the Emirates as his idol is Thierry Henry and he’s been likened to the great man in the past. The obvious comparison is the fact they are French, have bags of pace and play up front, but Remy would do well to emulate just a fraction of what TH14 did in Arsenal colours.

The former Marseille hitman could be one of several signings this summer with Wenger confirming yesterday that he’ll be in the market for “two or three” players this summer, but that number could increase if the likes of Lukasz Fabianski and Bacary Sagna leave.

“First we have to wait for Sagna and see what he will do. Also Fabianski. Afterwards we have to bring in two or three players to strengthen the squad, that’s for sure. “

Unfortunately everywhere we go, there are many teams in the market at the moment.” Wenger is quoted as saying by the Express

Hopefully we’ll see at least a defensive midfielder, a winger and a striker brought in this summer as well as any replacements for players that may leave. Obviously we’d all like to see a marquee signing like Karim Benzema, but I actually think Remy could prove to be an astute signing.

If the boss has a tight budget and needs to save money to spend in other areas, picking up Remy for just £8m would be an excellent piece of business as he’s proven in the Premier League and would bring some much-needed pace to the squad.
