Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is ready to launch an £18million bid for unsettled Barcelona attacker Alexis Sanchez this summer, according to reports.

The Chilean international moved to the Nou Camp from Udinese in 2011 but despite posting some impressive figures in terms of goals and assists, the 25-year-old has struggled to establish himself as a first team regular.

The South American has just enjoyed his most prolific season to date, scoring 21 goals and providing 15 assists, but it seems that return hasn’t done enough to convince the Barca bosses, with Spanish journalist Guillem Balague claiming that the club will consider offers for the dangerous attacker this summer.

It appears Liverpool are ready to test the Catalans resolve with the Mirror claiming the Merseysiders are ready to table an £18m offer as Brendan Rodgers looks to add some real quality to his squad ahead of the clubs return to the Champions League next season.

In a further boost, the newspaper suggests that Sanchez is keen for a new challenge after failing to hold down a regular spot at Barca, but the Reds may have to wait to conclude any potential deal as the player wants to wait until after this summers World Cup finals before resolving his future.

Sanchez would be a sensational signing if Liverpool could somehow manage to pull it off, but I have a feeling they would face some real competition if he is made available on the open market. £18m would also be an absolute bargain for a player of his quality, so the Reds may have to dig a little deeper if they want to persuade Barcelona to cash-in – particularly if he enjoys a positive World Cup.

Whether Liverpool are able to get a deal done or not, it’s still a positive sign for the fans that the club are targetting players like Sanchez, and it looks like it could be an exciting summer ahead as Rodgers looks to build a squad capable of not only maintaining a Premier League title challenge, but also cope with the added rigor of European football next season.
