Van Gaal Ready To Sell Record Signing To Fund Big-Money Move For Bayern Munich Star

By on May 25, 2014

As we approach the opening of the summer window clubs will be intensifying their efforts in the transfer market so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Could Juan Mata be sold to make way for Bastian Schweinsteiger?

New Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is ready to sell Juan Mata to help fund a big-money move for Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger, according to reports today.

Mata only moved to Old Trafford in January when former boss David Moyes was able to agree a record £38m deal with Premier League rivals Chelsea during the winter window, and while he had a relatively slow start to his United career, the 26-year-old enjoyed a strong finish to the season, scoring 6 goals in his final 8 games.

The Spanish attacker was regarded as a marquee signing at the time but it appears he might not be part of van Gaal’s plans with the Metro claiming that the new United boss is ready to let the playmaker leave if a suitable offer comes in, with Barcelona touted as a possible destination.

The Catalans are expected to undergo a major squad overhaul this summer following the appointment of Luis Enrique as manager and with Xavi now 34 and doubts continuing over the future of Cesc Fabregas, Mata could fill the creative hole at the Nou Camp.

Barca tried to sign Mata three years ago but they missed out to Chelsea when the attacker opted for Stamford Bridge when he left Valencia in 2011, but they may now be able to get their hands on the player if these reports are to be believed.

The newspaper suggests that should United find a suitable buyer for Mata, van Gaal will then use the money to fund an audacious move for German midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger. The experienced coach knows the German international well from his time at Bayern Munich, and it’s understood he sees the 29-year-old as the ideal player to build his new-look midfield around.

It would certainly be an interesting move by van Gaal and although selling Mata may not go down too well among some United fans, if they could get Schweinsteiger in it may actually work out for the best in the long-run.

Moyes had trouble trying to fit Mata into the United team along with Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie and no doubt van Gaal will have similar problems, so the team would arguably be better off and more balanced if the Spaniard was axed with Schweinsteiger coming in to fill the troublesome central midfield position.

However, I’m not convinced United are going to be able to persuade Bayern to sell their influential midfielder. He’s been at the Allianz Arena for over 16 years having joined the clubs youth system in 1998 and is still a vital member of Pep Guardiola’s starting eleven, so I think van Gaal may find it difficult to prize him away from the Bundesliga champions.

Why do utd need to sell to generate funds. Where are all this money that is being talked about that the club are supposedly going to spend in the summer without the sale of anyone? is this the glazers again trying to pull the wool over the supporters eyes and then blaming it on agents and other clubs when they dont sign any world class players. It would be just like them to sell one of the few world class players we have when someone offers them a profit .

We don’t need to sell in order to buy. Mata is our best player in that position n schwansteigger is a short term solution to our problem. He’s 29 n we need to start building th future. Transfer money may not come again like this in a long time. And why has van gaal abandoned th initial targets, Kroos and Fabregas? Right now we even don’t know of our certain targets, everything is just rumour.

Van Gaal if you must sell to buy, then you have Cleverly, Nani, Kagawa, Yonug Welbeck and many others. But selling MATA is just not reasonable. Besides, United doesn’t have to sell to buy. The money is there.
