As we approach the opening of the summer window clubs will be intensifying their efforts in the transfer market so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today,  Arsenal, Man City and Man Utd are among the clubs linked with Angel Di Maria.

Angel Di Maria Real Madrid

Arsenal have made a formal offer to Real Madrid for winger Angel Di Maria but face stiff competition for his services with Manchester United among the club also interested, according to reports today.

The Gunners were strongly linked with the Argentinean attacker last summer and Madrid bosses were understood to be open to the idea of selling Di Maria before Carlo Ancelotti ended up blocking his exit and sold Mesut Ozil to the North London club instead.

Arsene Wenger is believed to have continued to monitor the 26-year-old and will have seen him pick up the Man of the Match award in last weeks Champions League final win over Atletico Madrid.

Real boss Ancelotti has been outspoken about his desire to keep Di Maria at the Bernabeu so it will come as a blow to read reports coming out of Argentina that claim the attacker wants to quit and could even seal a move away from Madrid in the next couple of weeks.

The Express carry quotes from an unnamed source that told South American outlet UOL Sport that Di Maria is looking to leave Real this summer and claims that Arsenal, PSG and Monaco have all made firm offers for the player, while the likes of Man Utd and Man City are among those also understood to be showing an interest in his services.

“It is true that he is leaving because he wants to go.

“It is very likely that he will leave before the end of the World Cup in Brazil.”

“Arsenal, PSG and Monaco have all made concrete offers for Angel.

“But there is still interest from Manchester City, Manchester United and Juventus.” the source is quoted as saying by the Express

Di Maria enjoyed an excellent finish to the season and ended up chipping in with 11 goals and 24 assists last season, so it would come as a huge blow to Ancelotti if he was in fact looking to leave Madrid this summer.

It remains to be seen how much truth there is behind these reports and we should always take quotes from an unnamed ‘source’ with a pinch of salt. There is a chance the Argentinean international is still upset about the rough treatment he received from his own fans during the first half of the season when he was struggling to settle into his new role alongside Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo in attack, and is now looking for a new challenge.

If so, I’d love to see him come to the Premier League and think he’d be a superb signing for any of Arsenal, Man Utd or Man City. All three have the financial firepower to put together a tempting proposal for both Madrid and the player, so if he is to leave Spain this summer, the English trio should have as good a chance as anyone of winning the race for his signature.

However, if I was a betting man I’d back Di Maria to still be at Madrid next season. It’s not often a player wants to leave the newly-crowned European champions and as he has over two years left on his current deal, Real are under no real pressure to sell.
