Tottenham Hotspur are being forced to wait to complete a proposed £9m deal for Loic Remy as the striker is holding out for a move to rivals Arsenal after the World Cup, according to reports today.

Remy is expected to find a new permanent home this summer after enjoying a successful year on loan at Newcastle United from Queens Park Rangers last season, where he scored 14 goals in 26 games for Alan Pardew’s side.

Goal claim that Spurs have already held talks with the France international over a switch to White Hart Lane and Daniel Levy is now prepared to trigger the 27-year-old’s £9m buy-out clause to make the striker Mauricio Pochettino’s first signing since he was appointed as Tim Sherwood’s replacement last month.

The report suggests that Spurs are confident of securing Remy on a four-year contract as the striker was understood to be impressed by the clubs project and is open to the move. However, frustratingly for Tottenham, it seems Remy is holding out for a better offer as Goal claim he has now delayed making any decision over his future until after the World Cup as he is hoping that Arsenal will step up their interest over the coming weeks.

It’s believed that the former Marseille hitman would prefer to play for Arsenal as they are able to offer him Champions League football, and Goal’s report is supported by the Telegraph who also claimed last week that Remy was desperate to make the move to Arsenal this summer, so it looks like Spurs are going to have to wait if they want to get their man.

Arsene Wenger is in the market for attacking reinforcements this summer and Remy was spotted in the crowd during Arsenal’s final home game of the season against West Brom, sparking speculation that he could be set for a move to the Emirates this summer.

The problem is, Pochettino may decide to move for other targets if they get the feeling they are being strung along or made to feel second choice, so Remy is playing a dangerous game. Arsenal have been linked with a number of top class strikers this summer so there is no guarantee Wenger will make any formal move for the player.
