Liverpool In Talks To Sign £15m Attacking Midfielder

Liverpool are in talks to sign £15m-rated Bayern Munich winger Xherdan Shaqiri as Brendan Rodgers looks for possible alternatives to Saints star Adam Lallana.

As we approach the opening of the summer window clubs will be intensifying their efforts in the transfer market so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Liverpool are linked with Xherdan Shaqiri.

Liverpool are in talks to sign £15m-rated Bayern Munich winger Xherdan Shaqiri as Brendan Rodgers looks for possible alternatives to Adam Lallana, according to Sky Italia journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Shaqiri has been tipped to leave the Allianz Arena this summer just two years after making the move from FC Basel as the diminutive winger has struggled to hold down a first team place with the Bundesliga champions.

The 22-year-old made just 17 league appearances under Pep Guardiola last season with 7 of those coming on as a substitute, so he clearly doesn’t feature in the Spaniard’s plans and a move away this summer could be on the cards.

Despite his lack of playing time, Shaqiri still managed to chip in with six league goals and it appears he’s done enough to persuade Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers he could do a job at Anfield.

The Reds have been strongly linked with the attacker in recent months and reports last week claimed they may even have tabled a £15m offer to Bayern for his services, and now Sky Italia reporter Fabrizio Romano has suggested on Twitter that talks are continuing over a possible move.

Liverpool’s interest in Shaqiri comes after the club continue to struggle to agree a deal with Southampton for winger Adam Lallana, so it seems Rodgers has decided to identify other targets.

The Liverpool Echo reported last week that Liverpool may be forced to look elsewhere after the Saints had rejected the clubs final ‘take it or leave it’ £25m offer for Lallana, with the South Coast club understood to be holding out for nearer £30m.

That kind of money seems excessive for a player who’s only really had one good season of top flight football, so it’s no wonder if Rodgers is looking at alternatives and Shaqiri would be an excellent addition.

The Swiss international is not only younger than Lallana but he’ll also cost almost half the price which would allow Rodgers to use the extra funds to strengthen other areas of his squad, with a left-back also likely to be a priority this summer.

The only draw-back is that Shaqiri doesn’t have any experience in the Premier League and at just 6ft 2 inches, understandably some have voiced concerns over his ability to cope with the physical demands of English football.

What do Liverpool fans think? Would you take Shaqiri at £15m, or would you prefer Lallana at £30m?
