[Video Goals] Van Persie Scores Stunner As Holland Thrash Champions Spain 5-1

Holland pulled off a major shock in their Group B opener as they thrashed champions Spain 5-1 with Manchester United striker Robin van Persie helping himself to a brace.

Spain got off to a great start when Xabi Alonso put them ahead from the penalty spot midway through the first half after Diego Costa had been fouled, but United hitman RVP got a vital equaliser on the stroke of half-time when he sent a first-time looping header over Iker Casillas for 1-1.

The Dutch completely dominated after the break and sliced the defending champions open time and time again with Arjen Robben and Van Persie at the heart of it all. The Bayern Munich man got their second before De Vrji bundled home the third in the 64th minute to put Holland in control.

United striker van Persie then capatalised on a mistake to make it 4-1 before Robben added a late fifth to get Louis van Gaal’s side off to a flier. Watch the goals here:
