Liverpool are lining-up a €31m bid for Benfica attacker Lazard Markovic with the player understood to be keen on making the move to Anfield this summer, according to reports today.

The Reds have long been linked with the Serbian attacking midfielder but the Mirror claim Brendan Rodgers is finally ready to formalise his interest after learning that Markovic would be keen on moving to Merseyside this summer.

The newspaper suggests that Liverpool are ready to make a €31m (£25m) bid with Benfica possibly willing to cash-in on the youngster as they are eyeing Manchester United’s Nani as a replacement.

It’s understood that Rodgers wants a deal tied up quickly to prevent the likes of Chelsea making a late attempt to hijack their move, with the Blues also believed to be tracking the 20-year-old attacker.

Rodgers is expected to be busy this summer as he looks to build a squad capable of competing in the Champions League next year and if the Northern Irishman wants to add to his attacking options, Markovic would be an excellent addition.

The Serbian made his name with Partizan Belgrade before earning a move to Benfica last summer, and he’s continued to impress in Portugal after scoring 6 goals in his 32 appearances.
