Chelsea are set to offer Bayern Munich midfielder Toni Kroos a bumper £7m-a-year contract to snub the advances of Real Madrid and make a €25m switch to Stamford Bridge this summer, according to reports.

Kroos is in the final year of his current contract at the Allianz Arena and has so far been unable to reach an agreement over an extension, leading to speculation he will be on the move. Bayern have confirmed they wont increase their final offer, so unless the 24-year-old lowers his demand, it looks like the Bundesliga giants will cash in this summer.

Understandably there are a number of clubs keeping a close eye on his situation and reports have suggested that Real Madrid are leading the race after offering Kroos a £4m-a-year deal to make the move to Spain.

However, it seems Chelsea are ready to blow the European champions out of the water with the Daily Star claiming the Blues are ready to offer the German international a mammoth £7m-a-year contract to move to west London.

The news comes just days after Chelsea sealed the £27m signing of Spain star Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona and Jose Mourinho would have a wealth of attacking talent available to him if he’s able to add Kroos to his squad as well this summer.

Kroos was previously thought to be a target for Manchester United until new boss Louis van Gaal switched his attention to team-mate Bastian Schweinsteiger, leading the path clear for Chelsea to try and lure him to the Premier League.

Despite the player having just 12 months left on his contract, the Daily Star suggest it will take a fee of €25m (£20m) to persuade Bayern to cash in now, so he’s not going to come cheap. But even at that kind of price it would be an excellent piece of business as Kroos has proven himself to be one of the best midfielders in Europe over the past two years and he’s coming to the peak of his career.

The main problem Mourinho will have is trying to fit Kroos in to his team. The Portuguese boss already has the likes of Nemanja Matic, Ramires, Eden Hazard, Oscar, Willian, Andre Schurrle, Mohamed Salah and Cesc Fabregas at his disposal for the midfield and attacking positions, so it will be interesting to see how they’d line-up next year if Kroos was also to make the move to the Bridge.
