[Video Goals] England 1-2 Uruguay: Rooney Breaks Duck, Suarez Breaks Hearts

By on June 19, 2014

England are on the brink of crashing out of the 2014 World Cup following a disappointing 2-1 loss to Uruguay this evening.

After an even opening half hour, Liverpool striker Luis Suarez pounced to give Uruguay the lead, with the striker heading home from an excellent Edinson Cavani cross.

England pushed for the equaliser after the break and eventually found a way past Muslera when Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney was on hand to tap home his first even World Cup goal following good work from Sturridge and Johnson.

However, it was a familiar tale as captain Steven Gerrard’s lose header set Suarez free and the Reds front-man smashed past Joe Hart for 2-1 in the 85th minute. The result leaves England sitting bottom of Group D and will now have to rely on Italy winning both their remaining games to have a chance of qualifying for the last 16.
