Wenger Eyeing £8m Remy As Part Of Double Striker Swoop

As we approach the opening of the summer window clubs will be intensifying their efforts in the transfer market so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Gooner Mac brings us news of Arsenal’s interest in Loic Remy.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is stepping up his interest in Loic Remy and will also look to bring in another ‘marquee’ name as part of a double striker swoop this summer, according to reports.

Until now, we’ve expected the boss to bring in one striker this summer to offer support to Olivier Giroud next year after we were left heavily relent on the French striker last season.

But it appears he’s ready to surprise us with the Telegraph one of several newspapers who are reporting that Wenger plans to sign TWO strikers over the coming weeks and is ready to resurrect his interest in Loic Remy as well as bring in a ‘marquee’ name.

Remy has just enjoyed an excellent season on loan at Newcastle but is expected to leave Queens Park Rangers this summer and has an £8m buy-out clause in his contract. That is a relative bargain for a player of his quality, and the 27-year-old proved last season with 14 goals in 26 games that he can cut it in the Premier League.

The former Marseille hitman is also capable of playing out wide as well as through the middle so he’d give Wenger plenty of options in the final third, so I think he’d be a very shrewd signing if we do decide to bring him to the club.

The newspaper suggests that as well as Remy, the boss is also planning on signing a big-name striker with targets including Alvaro Morata, Alexis Sanchez, Karim Benzema, Mario Balotelli and Mario Manzukic.

As has been the way in recent transfer windows, the Telegraph state that Wenger is not going to rush into any decision and will wait and see how things unfold over the coming weeks, but with a transfer kitty of around £100m, Arsenal are expected to be heavily active this summer.

It’s certainly an exciting prospect if we do manage to sign Remy plus one of the names above, and of all the targets listed I’d particularly like to see one of Benzema or Sanchez come to the Emirates. However, unfortunately they are probably the two most difficult players two buy so I won’t be getting my hopes up just yet.

With many of our rivals already making big-money moves in the market, some Arsenal fans are growing impatient, but it’s clear we’re going to make signings so we’ve just got to trust Wenger will do the right thing and spend the clubs money wisely over the course of the summer. That said, I do think we should be as proactive as possible and not simply wait to see how things fall. If we want a player like Sanchez, we should be doing everything possible to make the deal happen NOW.
