Some interesting news coming out of Spain over the past 24 hours with reports claiming that Alexis Sanchez wants to join Arsenal and not Liverpool if he is to leave Barcelona this summer.

Sanchez has been widely tipped to leave the Nou Camp this summer with speculation suggesting he is unsettled due to his frosty relationship with Lionel Messi, and it’s believe the Catalans are prepared to cash in as new boss Luis Enrique doesn’t see him as a vital part of his starting eleven next season.

Understandably, he’s attracted a lot of interest from throughout Europe and both Arsenal and Liverpool are among the clubs who’ve been strongly linked with the Chilean attacker in recent weeks.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is keen to add his strike-force after a lack of depth cost the north Londoners last season, while Brendan Rodgers is also hoping to strengthen his options in attack ahead of the Merseysiders return to the Champions League, and Sanchez would be an excellent addition for either club.

However, while it may sound like it’s a two-way fight between two of England’s biggest clubs to bring Sanchez to the Premier League, reports in Spain tell a very different story.

Media outlet Sport claim that although the attacker is still open to remaining at the Nou Camp, if the Catalans decide to sell his first option would be to join Arsenal, and the 25-year-old has supposedly already made it clear he has no intention of joining Liverpool and doesn’t want to be part of any player-swap-deal involving Luis Suarez.

The newspaper suggests that Sanchez instructed his agent, Fernando Felicevich, to speak with potential suitors and after holding talks with officials from both Arsenal and Liverpool, it’s understood the attacker has decided to cut negotiations with the Anfield club after deciding he wants to move to North London should he leave Spain this summer.

Madrid-based paper Marca believe that Barcelona are keen to offload the Chilean international for €40m, and so far Arsene Wenger has only offered to pay up to €35m, but with just €5m seemingly separating the two clubs, you’d expect a compromise will be found.

Sanchez has just returned to Chile after being knocked out of the World Cup at the hands of hosts Brazil, and he’s likely to resolve his future over the coming days and it sounds like a move to Arsenal is now a distinct possibility.

He would be a sensational signing for the Gunners and with the pacey forward able to play out wide or through the middle, he’d give Wenger plenty of options in the final third next season.
