Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is confident of pulling off a €44m double swoop for Barcelona attacker Alexis Sanchez and Newcastle defender Mathieu Debuchy, according to reports.

We’ve been strongly linked with Sanchez over the past week with widespread reports claiming we’ve tabled a formal offer after Barcelona made it clear they were willing to listen to offers for the attacker this summer.

Rumours vary on what the exact bid amount was but the Mirror claim that Arsene is hopeful €31.5m (£25m) will be enough to persuade the Catalans to sell, and Sanchez is understood to favour a move to Arsenal over Liverpool – who are also interested and were keen to include the attacker in any deal involving Luis Suarez heading to the Nou Camp.

The newspaper indicates that we’ve already held initial talks with the 25-year-old’s agent, Fernando Felicevich, and feel personal terms would be settled relatively quickly as soon as a fee is agreed with Barcelona. Negotiations with the Catalans are expected to continue and Arsenal are hoping for a swift conclusion, with the report also suggesting that Felicevich is due to fly over to London for further talks in the coming days.

Sanchez would obviously be a sensational signing and fans are understandably getting excited at the thought of him coming to north London this summer. He’d bring some much-needed pace to our attack and he’d be able to play out wide or through the middle, so would give the boss plenty of options next season.

And Sanchez might not be the only imminent arrival at the Emirates as the Mirror claim that Arsene is also confident of sealing a €12.5m (£10m) deal for Newcastle United defender Mathieu Debuchy.

The 28-year-old has admitted he’s keen to join a club playing in the Champions League and the newspaper suggests we’re in talks with the Geordies over the right-back, and are hopeful of beating the likes of Monaco and PSG to his signature.

Debuchy is currently keeping Bacary Sagna out of the French team and he’s been excellent for Alan Pardew’s side over the past couple of seasons. I think he’d be a great replacement for Sagna and he’s got plenty of experience in English football, which means he shouldn’t have any adaptation period.

It’s been a frustratingly slow start to the summer window but it looks like things are starting to move and a €44m double swoop for Sanchez and Debuchy would be an excellent piece of business if we can pull them off.
