Arsenal Must Break The Bank To Land Midfielder After Making €30m Bid

Arsenal have tabled a €30m (£24m) bid for Sami Khedira but the Real Madrid midfielder has demanded a whopping £8m per year to make the switch to north London

The summer transfer window is now open for business and it’s expected to be a busy few weeks as managers strengthen their squads ahead of next season, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Gooner Mac brings us news of a bid for Sami Khedira.

Sami-Khedira

Arsenal have tabled a €30m (£24m) bid for Sami Khedira but the Real Madrid midfielder has demanded a whopping £8m per year to make the switch to north London, according to reports.

The German international has been tipped to leave the Bernabeu this summer as he’s entering the final year of his contract and terms over an extension have yet to be agreed. The 27-year-old has played a key role for the Spanish giants over the past three seasons but missed the second half of last year with a serious knee injury and in his absence, Luka Modric struck up an impressive partnership alongside Xabi Alonso in the heart of midfield.

So with Khedira seemingly no longer guaranteed a place in Carlo Ancelotti’s starting eleven and just 12 months remaining on his contract, speculation has suggested he could be on the move and we’ve been strongly linked with the player as Arsene Wenger looks to bring in a long-term replacement for Mikel Arteta.

It appears we’ve now stepped up our interest with the Metro claiming that the boss has made a €30m (£24m) bid after watching him play a starring role in the German team which marched to the World Cup final with a sensational 7-1 win over Brazil on Tuesday night.

However, while it’s not clear whether Real Madrid accepted the offer or not, any potential deal looks unlikely as Arsenal chiefs have been left stunned by Khedira’s wage demands of £8m per season.

If we agreed to meet that figure – which works out at around £153,000-a-week – it would make the former Stuttgart man the highest paid player at the club, trumping record signing Mesut Ozil. While he’d no doubt be an excellent addition to the squad, there is little chance we’ll sanction such a wage for a defensive midfielder, so it looks highly unlikely that this deal will go any further unless the player lowers his salary expectations.

After a slow start to the summer transfer window it looks like Wenger is finally set to splash the cash. Not only have we supposedly made this big-money bid for Khedira, but we’re also expected to announce the double signing of Alexis Sanchez and Mathieu Debuchy over the next 24 hours.

The boss is also in the market for a back-up goalkeeper and a potential replacement for Thomas Vermaelen should the defender leave, so it looks like it’s going to be an exciting few weeks, but I’d be hugely surprised if we signed Khedira based on his reported wage demands.
