Arsenal Closing In On Triple Swoop As Wenger Continues £100m Splurge

By on July 15, 2014

The summer transfer window is now open for business and it’s expected to be a busy few weeks as managers strengthen their squads ahead of next season, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Goooner Mac brings us news on a triple swoop for Arsenal.

Arsenal are closing in on a triple swoop for goalkeeper David Ospina and right-backs Mathieu Debuchy and Javi Manquillo as Arsene Wenger continues to utilise his £100m transfer kitty, according to reports.

With Lukasz Fabianski off to Swansea on a free transfer, the boss needs to bring in competition for number one Wojciech Szczesny and after being linked with a whole host of names in recent weeks, Ospina has emerged as a key target.

It appears we’ve now taken a huge step closer to bringing him to the Emirates with Goal claiming that we’ve agreed a £3m deal with Nice for the Colombian international and hope to tie up the move this week.

The 25-year-old has just one year remaining on his current contract so we’ve been able to negotiate a bargain fee, and he’ll come in to push Szczesny for the first team jersey next season after impressing at the World Cup this summer.

Goal also claim we’re expected to finally announce the signing of Mathieu Debuchy on Wednesday after agreeing an initial £8m deal with Newcastle United, and the French international is understood to have already agreed terms over the switch last week.

The deal appears to have been delayed until Alan Pardew found a replacement but with the Geordies wrapping up the signing of Daryl Janmaat on Tuesday afternoon, it’s paved the way for us to conclude the Debuchy transfer.

The third deal on the agenda is Atletico Madrid youngster Javi Manquillo with the report claiming that we’re in advanced negotiations over a season-long loan for the youngster.

Manquillo is predominantly a right-back but is also capable of playing in the center of defence or even at left-back, so it will be interesting to see where Arsene plans to play him if this loan deal comes off.

Goal seem to think the 20-year-old will be coming in to be understudy to Debuchy which will likely see Carl Jenskinon sent out on loan to get regular first team football under his belt.

So it looks like it’s going to be a busy few days at the Colney with three new signings potentially coming through the door as Arsene Wenger continues to use his reported £100m transfer kitty following the stunning capture of Alexis Sanchez last week.

If and when this triple swoop is completed, thoughts should turn to bringing in a defensive midfielder and if I was being really greedy, I’d also like to see another forward come in, but we’ll have to see what Arsene’s plan is in that department.

It’s good to see our Sagna replacement about to sign, and a goalkeeper to fill the void left from the departures of Fabianski and Mannone. But they are just replacements. Our worries have not disappeared. It’s common knowledge that Wenger is a compulsive ditherer. He changes his mind as much as the moons phases. The worry coming out of the Emirates is that he may not sign another striker. He seems to have got it in his head that Sanchez can do the job. Last season not having signed a striker in either the summer or winter transfer window almost certainly cost us the league. With Balotteli, Jackson Martinez, Bony, Remy, Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette, Cavani and others clearly available, it’s 50-50 whether he buys a striker. Is this another groundhog day. Once again being so close yet so far. Last season with another good striker we would have almost certainly have won the league, which means we would have won the double. Make sure the supporters pressure is kept on Wenger to sign another striker.

Comparing Christ and Wenger is a very silly thing to do. Christ was trying to improve the lot of humanity. Please don’t compare Wenger with Christ I find it offensive.
To realistically express a critique is the way to eventually things change. You seem to be scared of critique.

I agree not purchasing a back up striker in Jan transfer window did not go in our favour as Giroud was injured just after the window shut. But you also need to understand that a player needs to be available & at the right price. We started to fade when we lost Aaron Ramsey. Our goals were coming from our midfield & Giroud. Walcotts injury was a big blow too. Loic Remy would be a fantastic addition lets wait & see what happens with Khedira first. Sanchez Debuchy & Khedira are 3 quality players. We still need a back up keeper too & a RB.

Another striker as a sub in times of trouble. The likes of either Remy, Bony e.t.c. Then I need khedira or lars bender. As it is now, Ospina, Debuchy and Manquillo are good additions. With all these and Walcott back to his best, we are out for a double I tell you.

Bonaroca:- In my opinion the only player Arsenal need is a central defender in case Mertesacker or Konchesky are injured, otherwise there are enough fringe players who already played last season as backups.

Let’s be fair, what’s the use of having fringe young players and they have quite a few who should be given the chance to play some home games and give a rest to others.

Arsenal always start strongly at the beginning of the season, but then halfway seem to falter due to injuries or tiredness.

I think Mr Wenger should rotate the team so that each player would play not more then 30 competitive games during the season this means you would have less tired or burnt up players for the run in over of every competitive competition.

My other point is that Campbell should be in the pool to play this season, he has shown that he is a versatile strong player as an attacking forward. Arsenal need someone who could score goals and Campbell from what we have seen has those qualities.

Hope to have a very good season and more trophies during 2014/15 season

If only Prof. Wenger ll sign a holding midfielder in Khedira,Ashley Williams as a central defender, then go 4 either Bony,Benteke,Remy,Martinez as a sriker then loan out Sanogo,Jenkinson,Coquellin. Arsenal ll be strong 4 next season.

OK, you all liberals need to understand that some ppl are offended by that flippancy of comparing Wenger to Jesus. Yes its hip to call oneself agnostic or atheist but many more are strong believers. As of Wenger he is faffing about instead of buying players the club needs. For ages the club needed Midfield general and yet we make do with s midget like Arteta. Defence that let in 20 goals. is unchanged and Mertesacker is turning 30. Will Wenger have taken note Of Joachim Loew cunning withdrawal of Mertesacker in the semi and FINA games of WC? Think not.
