Arsenal skipper Thomas Vermaelen has been pictured on holiday with Manchester United striker Robin van Persie amid reports of a potential move to Old Trafford.

Vermaelen has found himself on the fringe of things at the Emirates over the past 18 months since losing his place in Arsene Wenger’s starting eleven, and with just one-year remaining on his current deal, he’s been tipped for a move this summer.

Man Utd have been strongly linked with a £10m bid for the Belgian defender as new boss Louis van Gaal looks to bring in an experienced central defender following the exits of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic.

Talk of a move to Old Trafford has now intensified after the 28-year-old was pictured holidaying with United striker and former Arsenal team mate van Persie in Barbados this week as the pair enjoyed well-earned breaks after their World Cup exploits.

The pair became friends during their time together at the Emirates and it seems they have continued to be close despite the Dutchman’s move to Manchester two years ago, so it’s no real surprise to see them spending time away together with their families.

However, it’s going to be interesting to see if the players are reunited this summer in a more permanent capacity, and not just for a holiday in the sun.
