Liverpool look set to wrap up the £8m signing of Loic Remy early next week after agreeing personal terms worth €4m-per-season with the Queens Park Rangers striker, according to reports in Italy.

Remy is expected to leave Loftus Road on a permanent basis this summer after telling the club he wants to play in the Champions League and Arsenal and Liverpool have both been strongly linked with the Frenchman in recent months.

Arsenal were the early front-runners for his signature and speculation over a move to the Emirates intensified after the striker was spotted among the crowd during the Gunners final home game of last season.

Despite the recent signing of Alexis Sanchez, Arsene Wenger is still on the look-out for further reinforcements and is understood to have held talks with the 27-year-old’s representatives about a potential move, but the north Londoners walked away after Remy demanded £80,000-a-week in wages.

This seems to have opened the door to Liverpool who were given permission to hold talks with the players agents on Friday and Sky Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has claimed that the Merseysiders have now agreed a five-year deal worth €4m-per-season with the striker.

Di Marzio suggests that Liverpool will pay the €10m (£8m) needed to trigger Remy’s buy-out clause from his QPR contract and a deal could be wrapped up as early as Tuesday next week.

If this report is accurate, it will be a shrewd piece of business from Brendan Rodgers as he looks to inject more goals in to his attack following the departure of Luis Suarez to Barcelona. Remy proved he can score goals in the Premier League after scoring 14 goals in just 26 games while on loan at Newcastle United last season and at £8m, he’s a relative bargain in today’s market.

The Mirror are also reporting today that they have had confirmation from Queens Park Rangers that Liverpool have made a formal move for Remy, so it certainly seems like the French international could be heading for Anfield.

However, what’s interesting about Di Marzio’s report is that the €4m-a-season deal that’s supposedly been agreed with Liverpool works out at around £60,000-a-week in wages, which is much less than the £80,000 Arsenal were quoted. So it’s going to be interesting to see if the Gunners renew their interest if Remy has now lowered his demands.

Will Arsenal make a late move to scupper Liverpool’s deal? We’ll have to wait and see….
