Wenger Set To Complete Third Major Signing After Agreeing Deal For Ligue 1 Ace

Arsenal are closing in on their third major signing of the summer after agreeing a €4m fee with Nice for goalkeeper David Ospina, according to reports in France

The summer transfer window is now open for business and it’s expected to be a busy few weeks as managers strengthen their squads ahead of next season, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Gooner Mac brings us news on David Ospina.

Arsenal are closing in on their third major signing of the summer after agreeing a €4m fee with Nice for goalkeeper David Ospina, according to reports in France.

Arsene Wenger confirmed he’s in the market for another goalkeeper this summer after Saturday’s 2-0 friendly win over Boreham Wood, as he looks to bring in competition for Wojciech Szczesny following Lukasz Fabianski’s free transfer move to Swansea last month.

The Frenchman has been linked with a whole host of names in recent months but Colombian international David Ospina has emerged as a key target and now it looks as though we’ve taken a huge step closer towards securing his signature.

Local Nice newspaper, Nice Matin, are reporting that Ospina is expected to be announced as an Arsenal players in the coming days after we agreed a €4m fee with Nice for the 25-year-old stopper.

Ospina has just come off the back of a decent season in Ligue 1 but he really excelled at the World Cup where he shone in an impressive Colombian side that made it to the last eight before narrowly losing out to hosts Brazil.

Once this deal is officially announced, he will become our third major signing this summer after the arrivals of Alexis Sanchez and Mathieu Debuchy from Barcelona and Newcastle United respectively.

Ospina won’t be content at just playing second fiddle to Szczesny next season and I can really see him pushing the Polish international for the first team jersey. Szczesny is likely to start the season as No.1 after an impressive campaign last year, but any dip in form and we will have a goalkeeper more than capable of stepping in and making the number one slot his own.
