Real Madrid Ace Has ‘Concrete Offer From Arsenal’

Some interesting news coming out of Spain today with reports suggesting that Arsenal have made a ‘concrete offer’ to Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas.

The summer transfer window is now open for business and it’s expected to be a busy few weeks as managers strengthen their squads ahead of next season, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Gooner Mac brings us some interesting news on Iker Casillas.

Some interesting news coming out of Spain today with reports suggesting that Arsenal have made a ‘concrete offer’ to Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas.

Arsene Wenger is in the market for a new keeper to offer competition to Wojciech Szczesny next season after seeing Lukasz Fabianski join Swansea on a free transfer last month.

Having been linked with Casillas last summer, speculation has resurfaced in recent months suggesting we’ll make another attempt to bring the Spanish legend to the Emirates, and reports in Spain are claiming that a formal move has now been made.

Spanish newspaper El Confidencial report that Arsenal have made a ‘concrete offer’ to the 33-year-old but any deal is on the condition that Madrid agree to rip up his current contract and let him leave the Bernabeu for nothing.

Casillas is on huge wages at Madrid so Wenger is understood to be reluctant to pay any transfer fee, but the paper claims that if the veteran can break his contract to become a free agent, the boss has promised him he’ll be our new No.1 if he makes the move to north London.

There were reports last week suggesting that Madrid were ready to let Casillas leave for nothing after they agreed a deal to sign Keylor Navas from Levante, and with the experienced Spaniard in danger of dropping to third choice at the Bernabeu, the La Liga giants were keen to get his high wages off their books. So on one hand it looks like a deal could potentially be on the cards.

However, this news comes amid intense speculation that claims Arsenal have already agreed a deal to sign David Ospina from Nice, with the Colombian understood to be pencilled in to undergo a medical and finalise a £3.5m move when he returns form holiday next week.

It’s highly unlikely we’re in the market for two keepers of such quality, so it looks like either Wenger is lining up more than one deal before deciding which to pursue, or at least one of these reports are wide of the mark.

Either way, it appears we’re going to have a new goalkeeper through the door this summer and Szczesny is going to have some real competition on his hands to hang on to the first team jersey. Ospina was superb for Colombia at the World Cup and won’t be content at playing second fiddle to the young Pole, while despite his recent woes, Casillas is still a top class keeper who will expect first team football if he agrees to join Arsenal.
