Edinson Cavani looks set to disappoint Chelsea and Manchester United after confirming he’s likely to remain at Paris Saint-Germain this summer, according to reports.

Cavani has only been at PSG for 12 months after joining from Napoli last summer but despite scoring 25 goals in 43 appearances during his debut season, there has been growing speculation that he’s not content in Ligue 1.

The Uruguayan hitman had been tipped to leave the Parc des Princes earlier in the summer after voicing his frustration at having to play out wide to accommodate for Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Speaking back in April, Cavani said:

“I have to give the best, regardless of the position. But no, it is not always easy,”

“I’m good in Paris, but there are some things that I’ll have to talk to the club about.

“Certain things should be done differently. Today I defend a lot, I have another idea of what my role in the team should be.

“As an attacker I am used to finishing attacks and scoring and today I must perform other tasks. No, it is not easy, it’s true.

“I do not want to talk about sacrifice, because I am happy putting the effort in. But today I hold a more defensive role than before.

“I am more like a defender and it is more difficult because, when I arrived, I had other ideas.”

“The Premier League? I like it. Was my my agent in London in February? I do not know, honestly.” Cavani is quoted as saying by ESPN in April

The uncertainly over the 27-year-old’s future led to reports suggesting that Chelsea and Manchester United were keen on luring him to the Premier League this summer, with Sky Sports reporting earlier this month that the player had instructed his agent to secure him a move to England.

United in particular have been strongly linked and speculation last month claimed that Louis van Gaal was lining-up a £56m bid to try and make the attacker his marquee signing as the Dutchman continues his rebuilding project at Old Trafford.

However, it looks like Cavani is set to disappoint the England duo after saying that he now expects to remain with PSG this summer, while the striker also revealed he’s held talks with boss Laurent Blanc and hinted that the Frenchman is ready to change his formation to play him in his preferred central position.

“I am at Paris, I think I will stay here, but you never know with the transfer window.”

“There was a discussion with Laurent Blanc before the end of the season and I think there will be a new tactical scheme this season.”

So it appears Cavani is set to remain in France for at least another season, so the likes of Jose Mourinho and Louis van Gaal will need to look elsewhere if they want to bring in a world class forward this summer.
