Confirmed: Arsenal Announce Third Summer Signing On Long-Term Contract

Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Colombian international David Ospina from Nice for an undisclosed fee with the goalkeeper signing a long-term contract.

The summer transfer window is now open for business and it’s expected to be a busy few weeks as managers strengthen their squads ahead of next season, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Arsenal confirm the signing of David Ospina.

Arsenal have confirmed the signing of David Ospina from Nice for an undisclosed fee with the goalkeeper signing a long-term contract.

The Colombian has been strongly linked with a move to the Emirates this summer after he emerged as Arsene Wenger’s top target to replace the departed Lukasz Fabainski – who joined Swansea on a free transfer last month.

Arsene Wenger let slip during an interview last week that the 25-year-old was due to join the club and now we’ve officially announced his signature on Arsenal.com, confirming that the keeper has penned a long-term contract.

The precise fee hasn’t been revealed, but reports suggest we’ve paid in the region of £3.5m, as Nice have been forced to sell on the cheap as he was in the final year of his contract.

After wrapping up the deal, Wenger told the clubs official website:

“David Ospina is an excellent goalkeeper, with good experience and a proven record of performing with Nice and Colombia. He will add strength to our squad and we are very pleased that he will be joining us.”

Ospina will now link up with his new team mates next week and is expected to make his debut in next weekends Emirates Cup, when Arsenal will take on Benfica and Monaco.

The Colombian international has just come off the back of an excellent World Cup where he put in a number of impressive performances, and although Wojciech Szczesny will start the season as No.1, I’m in no doubt Ospina will really push him for the first team shirt.

The keeper is now our third major summer signing following on from Alexis Sanchez and Mathieu Debuchy, and we could be set to quickly seal our fourth signing with a deal understood to be close for defender Calum Chambers.
