Liverpool + Man Utd Given Hope Of Landing Superstar For Just €35m

Liverpool and Man United have been given hope of landing Marco Reus next summer after the attacker turned down a new contract offer from Borussia Dortmund

The summer transfer window is now open for business and it’s expected to be a busy few weeks as managers strengthen their squads ahead of next season, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Liverpool and Manchester United have been given a boost in their pursuit of Marco Reus.

Liverpool and Manchester United have been given hope of landing Marco Reus for a bargain fee next summer after the attacker turned down a new contract offer from Borussia Dortmund, according to reports.

Reus has become one of the most sought-after players in Europe after enjoying two sensational seasons at Dortmund since making the move from Borussia Monchengladbach in 2012, with the 25-year-old chipping in with 42 goals in 90 appearances over the past 24 months.

Understandably, his impressive form has led to interest from a whole host of clubs and Liverpool and Manchester United are among those who have been linked with a move for the German attacker in recent times.

United have also been linked with Dortmund defender Mats Hummels but Jurgen Klopp claimed last week that neither player had asked the leave the club this summer and insisted they would still be at the Westfalenstadion this coming season.

“I can assure everyone there are no indications that Mats or Marco want to leave.

“They will be playing for us in the new season.” Klopp is quoted as saying by the Express.

However, the long-term future of Reus has been plunged into doubt as German newspaper Bild claim today that the player has rejected a new contract offer from Dortmund.

Reus’ current deal expires in 2017 and Bild suggest that Dortmund proposed to increase his salary from €5m to €7m per season but on the proviso that his €35m buy-out clause – which comes into effect next summer – was removed from the contract.

€35m for a player of Reus’ quality is an absolute bargain in today’s market and no doubt Liverpool and Man Utd wouldn’t be the only one’s interested next summer if he doesn’t sign a new deal before that point, so it’s no surprise that Dortmund are desperate to try and renegotiate his current contract to have the buy-out either removed or at the very least, increased.

However, Bild claim that Reus has rejected the offer and unless things change over the coming months, we should expect a number of clubs to be battling it out for his signature next summer with Liverpool and United, as well as the likes of Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Real Madrid, likely to be jumping at the chance to trigger his €35m buy-out clause.

Where he would end up is anyone’s guess but he would certainly be a major coup if Liverpool or United could pull it off and it would be great to see a talent like Reus plying his trade in the Premier League.
