Arsenal Dealt Huge Blow As Khedira Wants Bayern Move After Talks With Guardiola

The summer transfer window is now open for business and it’s expected to be a busy few weeks as managers strengthen their squads ahead of next season, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Gooner Mac brings us the latest on Sami Khedira.

It looks as though Arsenal have been dealt a major transfer blow with reports in Spain claiming that Sami Khedira wants to join Bayern Munich after holding talks with Pep Guardiola.

Khedira has emerged as a key transfer target in recent weeks for boss Arsene Wenger as he looks to bring in a powerful midfielder to replace the ageing Mikel Arteta at the heart of our midfield.

The German international has just entered the final year of his deal at the Bernabeu and looked set to leave the European champions after rejecting a contract extension offer last season.

With Madrid keen to cash in rather than risk losing him for nothing in 12 months time, widespread reports earlier this month claimed that Arsenal were closing in on his signature after agreeing a €29m deal with the Spanish giants.

However, the move appeared to stall due to Khedira’s excessive wage demands and now in a further blow, Marca are claiming that the 27-year-old wants to join Bayern Munich after holding talks with boss Pep Guardiola, with the German champions trying to convince the player to see out the final year of his contract in order to make a free transfer switch in the summer of 2015.

This move would appeal to Khedira because as a free agent, he’d be able to demand the high wages he wants, and the Spanish newspaper states that the midfielder ‘would love’ to play for his home countries No.1 club as he feels valued back in Germany.

The only silver lining for Arsenal is that obviously Madrid are unlikely to allow Khedira to simply stay at the club for another year and let him walk away for nothing. Arsenal are supposedly willing to meet their asking price to buy him this summer, so you’d think they would be keen to do business with us, but the big stumbling block is being able to agree personal terms with the player.

I think this saga could run for a few more weeks before we see a resolution, but let’s hope Wenger can work his magic and persuade Khedira to turn his back on a lucrative move to Bayern next summer in favour of a switch to north London.

While he’s not the conventional defensive midfielder many fans feel we need, the German is a world class talent who would bring some much-needed physicality to the centre of the park and he has a winning mentality that will be priceless. He’s also extremely versatile and is capable of sitting deep or joining in the attacks when needed, so I think he’d work well alongside Aaron Ramsey at the Emirates next season.
