By on July 31, 2014

Liverpool beat Manchester City 3-1 in a penalty shoot-out after the two teams played-out an entertaining 2-2 draw in the International Champions Cup in New York last night.

City took the lead early in the second half when Stevan Jovetic was on hand to pokke home from close range following good work from Jesus Navas down the right. Jordan Henderson then curled home an excellent leveller to make it 1-1 before Jovetic continued his impressive pre-season form in front of goal by restoring City’s lead less than 10 minutes later.

However, Raheem Sterling came off the bench to score a superb equaliser with just minutes remaining and Liverpool went on to win the shoot-out 3-1 with Emre Can, Jordan Henderson and Lucas Leiva all converted after City had missed their opening two spot kicks.
