Liverpool have been told by Paris Saint-Germain they can sign long-term Chelsea target Ezequiel Lavezzi for €20m (£16m) this summer, according to reports.

The Argentinean international has been tipped to leave the Parc des Princes this summer with boss Laurent Blanc looking to make room for the proposed arrival of Angel Di Maria from Real Madrid.

The uncertainty over his future has seen the 29-year-old linked with a move to the Premier League in recent months with both Chelsea and Liverpool understood to be showing a keen interest.

However, it appears the Merseysiders are now emerging as the most likely option with reports over the weekend suggesting that Brendan Rodgers was eyeing a bid for the former Napoli ace as he looks to bolster his attack before the start of the new season.

Now, the Express are reporting that Paris Saint-Germain have informed Liverpool that Lavezzi can be their’s if they are prepared to stump up €20m (£16m). It remains to be seen whether the Reds will be prepared to match that figure but it seems like a reasonable fee for a player of his quality.

Lavezzi was excellent at Napoli before his move in 2012 and although he may not have had the same impact at PSG, he’s still chipped in with 23 goals and 18 assists during his 90 appearances, despite being forced to play second fiddle to Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Edinson Cavani.

Liverpool have already splashed out over £80m on six signings including attackers Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Lazar Markovic, but Rodgers still has money left over and Lavezzi would be a very useful addition to the squad as the Anfield club prepare to go back in to the Champions League.

It’s unclear whether Chelsea will step up their interest now that it looks like Lavezzi is on the market, but for now you’d have to say Liverpool are in the driving seat and favourites should the Argentinean opt for a switch to England this summer.
