[Video Goals] Man Utd 3-1 Liverpool: Rooney Leads United Comeback

By on August 5, 2014

Manchester United came from a goal down to beat Liverpool 3-1 in the final of the International Champions Cup final in Miami last night.

Liverpool took an early lead when Steven Gerrard fired home a 13th minute penalty after Phil Jones had fouled Raheem Sterling inside the area, but United levelled just after half time when Wayne Rooney volleyed home Javier Hernandez’ cross for 1-1.

A deflected Juan Mata strike from the edge of the area then put Louis van Gaal’s men ahead two minutes later before Rooney had a goal ruled after Ashley Young’s cross had bizarrely gone out of play in the build up. However, youngster Jesse Lingard did make it 3-1 late on when he drilled past Mignolet from the edge of the area to seal the cup for United.

It rounds off what’s been a hugely successful pre-season tour of America for both clubs and they will now head home to make their final preparations before the new season kicks off.
