Mario Balotelli is set to undergo his medical with Liverpool on Friday ahead of a €20m move from AC Milan, according to reports in Italy.

Widespread reports on Thursday claimed that Liverpool had agreed a €20m (£16m) deal with AC Milan for the Italian international after opening talks with the Serie A outfit earlier this week.

Balotelli was then believed to have confirmed to the media after training today that he was leaving the San Siro, telling journalists:

“This will be my last day in Milanello”

The strikers agent, Mino Raiola, flew in to the UK on Thursday afternoon to discuss personal terms with Liverpool officials in London and it appears those talks have progressed well as reports suggest that only the finer details are being ironed out between the two parties.

Sky Italia journalist Gianluca di Marzio claims that the 24-year-old will undergo his medical on Friday and as long as everything goes according to plan, the striker will join the Merseysiders before the weekend.

It remains to be seen whether Liverpool will be able to get everything tied up in time for Balotelli to face Manchester City on Monday. In order for him to be eligible to play against his former side, the Reds must have his signature registered with the FA by noon on Friday, so they are in a race against time to meet that deadline.

The proposed signing of Balotelli has certainly gone down well with the majority of the Anfield faithful, and while he isn’t as potent a threat as former favourite Luis Suarez, the Italian certainly has the potential to be a top player for the club.

The key for Rodgers and his team will be to tame the strikers wild-side. If they can manage to do so, Balotelli may just prove to be the bargain signing of the summer.
