Daley Blind is set to undergo a medical after Manchester United confirmed they have reached an agreement with Ajax for the versatile Dutch international.

Blind has been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford all summer after impressing at the World Cup, and the former champions were given the all clear to sign him when Ajax admitted last week that he could leave at the right price.

With transfer deadline day approaching, it seems Louis van Gaal has finally decided to make his move and the club announced on ManUtd.com this morning that they have agreed a fee with the Eredivisie giants for the 24-year-old’s signature.

An announcement read:

Manchester United is delighted to announce it has reached agreement with Ajax to sign Daley Blind, subjet to a medical and personal terms.

A further announcement will be made when the process is complete.

United haven’t revealed the precise fee they will pay, but reports suggest it’s in the region of €18m (14.2m), and the Metro claim that Blind will now fly into the UK to undergo a medical and discuss personal terms.

If all goes to plan, then Blind will complete his move to United this weekend and become the clubs fifth major signing of the summer following the arrivals of Marcos Rojo, Ander Herrera, Luke Shaw and Angel Di Maria.

The versatile Dutchman initially made his name as a left-back but Ajax manager Frank de Boer converted him to a defensive midfielder last season and he shone in his new role.

It’s not clear where van Gaal plans on playing him, but with Blind also capable of playing at centre-back, he’ll give United plenty of options if he completes his move to Old Trafford before the window slams shut on Monday night.
