The transfer window is now closed for another summer but there are still a few deals still going through. Here, we bring you the latest on Manchester United’s move for Radamel Falcao.

Manchester United have completed the signing of Colombian striker Radamel Falcao from Monaco on an initial season-long loan deal, the club have confirmed.

News broke early on Monday that Falcao was flying in to Manchester to undergo a medical and discuss personal terms after United had agreed a deal with Monaco to sign the 28-year-old on an initial year-long loan deal with a view to making it permanent next summer.

We then saw images emerging of the Colombian arriving at the clubs Carrington training base in the early evening to complete his move, but the former Premier League champions had to apply to the FA for extra time to get the deal over the line as the club worked furiously to get the paperwork finalised.

Thankfully those formalities have now been completed and United have confirmed on their official website that Falcao has joined the club on loan with the option to buy in 2015. After completing the move, Falcao told ManUtd.com that he’s delighted to have joined the club and is looking forward to working with Louis van Gaal:

“I am delighted to be joining Manchester United on loan this season. Manchester United is the biggest club in the world and is clearly determined to get back to the top. I am looking forward to working with Louis van Gaal and contributing to the team’s success at this very exciting period in the club’s history.”

Boss van Gaal said:

“I am delighted Radamel has joined us on loan this season. He is one of the most prolific goalscorers in the game. His appearance-to-goal ratio speaks for itself and, when a player of this calibre becomes available, it is an opportunity not to be missed.”

Falcao’s arrival coincides with Danny Welbeck moving to Arsenal for a fee in the region of £16m, while Javier Hernandez has also left Old Trafford for Real Madrid on a season-long loan.

The arrival of one of the best strikers on the planet is obviously a major coup for United and Falcao joins an impressive list of summer signings that include Angel Di Maria, Ander Herrera, Marcos Rojo, Luke Shaw and Daley Blind.

It will be interesting to see how Louis van Gaal fits Falcao into his new-look team, and it could see the Dutchman adopt a change of formation to try and field the South American alongside Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie.
