REPORTS: Arsenal First To Table Formal £15m Cahill Bid

Reports today are suggesting Arsenal will make a formal bid for centre back Gary Cahill in January after Bolton chairmen Phil Gartside confirmed the club will be forced to sell their star players if a Champions League club comes knocking, due to increasing debts at the club.

“If a Champions League team knocks on our door in January that’s the best time to sell an asset because Champions League teams will pay the money,” Bolton’s chairman, Phil Gartside, told Bloomberg.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger splashed over £13m on defenders Koscielny and Squillaci in the summer and despite some improvement in the goals conceeded column this season, many still feel the Gunners require a more physical presence at the heart of their defence, and Cahill would certainly fit the bill.

Another huge benefit would be the fact Cahill would be available for European competition but the stumbling block may be Bolton’s asking price which is expected to be around the £15m mark.

Manchester United, Tottenham and Liverpool have also been linked with a move for the England international but the Guardian suggests Arsenal will be first to make their move.

Would Arsenal fans welcome a move for Gary Cahill? Please discuss below….

Sign Him Up ASAP … if Verm is out for the season and Kozzer keeps getting sent off we’re gonna be in big trouble. Im not happy with a Squillaci Djourou partnership at the back for the rest of the season 🙁

Too right Benny, the ideal situation would be if we sign Cahill and Vermaelen returns aswell 🙂

      Would love that partnership!

Now that would be a brillllliaantttt defensive partership. Two, never say die attitude players, who have a no nonsense approach to defending, and love clean sheets. I, so miss the verminator.

of course we need him…squillaci’s 30 he wont stay long enough we knew he was signed for short term in the beginnin itself so signing him IS and ONLY ideal thing to do cos,as far as i know,we try to bring players from outta england and they tak time to settle unlike vermaelen, even our two new signings are great examples for that…..i have always stressed the fact of buyin defenders from the inside the country who know the physicality of it and cahill will be a wonderful signing for our defense given his age the long term factor will also be compromised…only question whether arsene buy him for 15m?….well yes,IF he had not bought squillaci in the summer so, he might use the “we have enough defenders” factor but i have to say, with vermaelen’s achilles injured we might see its recurrence a lot frequent and if squillaci’s injured with koscileny carded….wat could we do with djorou and a reserve defender?we have faced a similar defender crisis last season….so its safe to take damage control and buy cahill…..
p.s-cahill and vermaelen would make and awesome defense too! with song holdin the MF

Squillaci is Solid from what i see, good enough to be cover. Really do need Cahill, i hope Arsenal really gets him. Then we might win big games without conceding in games against weaker sides. sick of losing against lower teams. hope cahill makes a big difference.

Also, hope our key players stay fit, we are in the midst of going through the dreaded November.

At least this would be the best gift to arsenal faithfuls since the days of Keown,Campbell,Adams axis. A good defensive depth is a must for any title winning squad and more to it the english determination, steel and will to defend has been lacking for long. I long for Cahil/Vermealen pairing with able back ups in Kosc/Squilaci and Djorou.
Please Arsene dont dilly dally the price is fair if unknown quantity in Kosc could cost in excess of 8 mill pnds.

Another post without substance.First off, is cahill bettter than our present defenders?I will definitely say no. He is a djourou standard with a british passport. Some fans just want to buy for the sake off it.Saying that he will be a good addition to the squad. Our defensive issues has nothing to do with individuals, but the formation and the league we play in.If barca played in the epl, i bet they would conceed as many goals as we do, only that they have more clinical goalscorers gthan us.

He is young, and has a very strong presence in the defence. Aaaannnddd, he is definitely better than djourou. Bringing the ball out of defence for a central defender would mainly require him passing it to either of the full backs or the central/ defensive mid fielder, so i think there is no problem there…. He would be an amazing addition to the squad. Cahill and the Verminator would make an amazing central defensive pairing.

Does Tim Cahill have the necessary skills to bring the ball out of defence, the Arsenal way ,under Arsene ,or is he just another typical boot it away English defender who,ll give the ball straight back to the opposition?

Not Tim Cahill ,rather Gary ,a slip of concentration?

you can bet your life on the fact that MANURE will buy him for around £20 million-they’ll pay over the odds to stop him going to us & as the long term successor to daffy duck(ferdinand).guarranteed..

Koscielny is not even a Championship standard footballer yet you can bet your bottom dollar that Wenger will stick with him a la Flappyhandski until he eventually shows some potential.

We all knew that Cahill was the biz during the Summer yet Wenger decided to bring this one-paced and weak defender in from Lorient.

Cahill is Sh*te Hart Lane bound unfortunately!!!
