Manchester United have been dealt a fresh injury blow with reports claiming that defender Phil Jones has been ruled out for up to three weeks with a hamstring injury.

Jones was forced off during the closing stages of England’s 2-0 Euro 2016 qualifying win over Switzerland on Monday night after appearing to pull up with a hamstring problem.

The 22-year-old flew home with the rest of the squad and returned to United’s Carrington training base where he was sent for scans to determine the full extent of the injury.

It was initially feared Jones could be facing over a month on the sidelines, however, the Express claims that the scans have confirmed that the versatile defender is likely to be out for two to three weeks.

Jones has featured in every United game so far this season with the England international playing in Louis van Gaal’s newly-formed back-three, so the Dutchman is going to have to change things up over the coming weeks.

New signing Marcos Rojo is now clear to make his debut after receiving his work permit, so he’s the man most likely to come in for United’s upcoming fixtures against Queens Park Rangers, Leicester and West Ham, with Jones expected to be back in contention when Everton visit Old Trafford on the 5th October.
