Arsenal Eye Triple January Swoop For World Cup Winning Trio

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is eyeing a sensational triple swoop for German World Cup winners Sami Khedira, Mats Hummels and Julian Draxler this January.

The summer transfer window may be closed but managers are already thinking ahead to future transfer windows so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Arsenal are linked with a triple swoop in January.

Sami-Khedira

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is eyeing a sensational triple swoop for German World Cup winners Sami Khedira, Mats Hummels and Julian Draxler this January, according to reports.

Wenger has just come off the back of a record summer of transfer activity that saw us spend over £70m on Alexis Sanchez, Calum Chambers, David Ospina, Danny Welbeck and Mathieu Debuchy.

However, with the clubs coffers still bulging, it seems the boss is going to have funds available when the transfer window reopens in January and has his eye on three German superstars.

As we reported earlier, the Daily Mail claim that Wenger is ready to cash-in on Mesut Ozil this winter with the former Real Madrid man understood to be unhappy at playing out on the wing.

While many fans will be extremely disappointed if this turns out to be true, the good news is that the newspaper suggests the boss will use the money from Ozil’s sale to make moves for Sami Khedira, Mats Hummels and Julian Draxler.

Khedira has long been linked with a move to the Emirates and with less than a year left to run on his current deal, the 27-year-old has been tipped to leave Madrid after rejecting a contract extension offer.

There’s no doubt we desperately need a dominant midfielder and Khedira would be a major coup if we could pull it off, so fingers crossed we can finally get a deal agreed with the European champions.

If Ozil is sold in January then it will leave a huge void to fill in attack and Draxler would be an exciting replacement. The 21-year-old has been in excellent form for Schalke again this season and although he’s nowhere near as established as Ozil, he certainly has the potential to be a world class player.

However, with a buy-out clause set at a reported £37m, he’s not going to be a cheap option so I have my doubts over whether Arsene will be prepared to match the figure and I can’t see Schalke accepting much less than his buy-out fee.

The third player the Daily Mail claim we’re interested in is Borussia Dortmund defender Hummels. We’re short of options as the back with Calum Chambers our only recognised back-up to Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker so another centre-back is desperately needed in January.

But I don’t think we have any chance of persuading Dortmund to sell us their skipper as he’s an integral part of their side. I also don’t see Arsene bringing in such an established name in January as it would leave us with three top class centre-backs, so I’m not getting too excited by the prospect of making a move for Hummels just yet, despite what the Mail claim.
