Arsenal & Liverpool Linked With January Swoop For Unsettled French Midfielder

Arsenal and Liverpool are ready to battle-it-out for the signing of unsettled PSG midfielder Yohan Cabaye as he looks to return to the Premier League in January

The summer transfer window may be closed but managers are already thinking ahead to future transfer windows so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Arsenal and Liverpool are linked with Yohan Cabaye.

Arsenal and Liverpool are ready to battle-it-out for the signing of unsettled Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Yohan Cabaye as he looks to return to the Premier League in January, according to reports.

Cabaye only moved to PSG less than a year ago having made a £20m switch back to his homeland from Newcastle United in January 2014.

However, after an encouraging first few months at the club, he’s since fallen out-of-favour under boss Laurent Blanc and has started just six games in all competitions this season with the midfielder being substituted in five of those appearances.

Speculation has suggested that Cabaye has now grown tired of his bit-part role at the Parc des Princes and is keen to secure a move back to the Premier League when the transfer window re-opens in January.

The Metro cite reports in France as claiming that both Arsenal and Liverpool are keeping a close eye on the 28-year-old’s situation and are ready to offer him a fresh start back in England if he’s able to force his way out this winter.

It’s not known what type of fee PSG would demand for Cabaye’s services, but the newspaper suggests that Blanc is happy to let him leave so a battle could now ensure between Arsenal and Liverpool in January.

The Gunners saw a bid rejected for Cabaye before he joined PSG and with Arsene Wenger needing to find a long-term replacement for Mikel Arteta, the French manager could now renew his interest in his compatriot.

However, it looks like the North Londoners will face stiff competition from Liverpool as Brendan Rodgers is also in need of a deep-lying, ball-playing midfielder and Cabaye’s experience in the Premier League is sure to appeal to the Merseysiders.

It’s certainly going to be interesting to see how this develops over the coming weeks but if Cabaye continues to be left out in the cold at PSG, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him back in England come January and he’d be an excellent addition for either Arsenal or Liverpool if they could pull it off.
