Both teams will be looking to get their stuttering seasons back on track when Arsenal entertain Manchester United at the Emirates on Saturday night.

The Gunners head into the game off a disappointing defeat away at Swansea before the international break that saw the Welsh outfit score two late goals to complete the turn-around after Alexis Sanchez had opened the scoring.

That result left the North Londoners down in sixth place in the Premier League table and although they’re still in touch with third placed Man City, any slim hopes of the title must surely be gone for another season with leaders Chelsea a full 12 points ahead after just 11 games.

United’s poor early-season form has also left any hopes of lifting the title in tatters with Louis van Gaal’s men sitting one point behind tomorrow’s hosts in seventh place after a narrow 1-0 win over Crystal Palace before the international break.

The game will see Danny Welbeck come up against his boyhood club for the first time since his £16m deadline day move while Robin van Persie will also face Arsenal again having previously captained the side during his eight years in North London, so there are certainly a few sub-plots to this game to keep an eye out for.

Team news

Arsenal have been boosted by the return to fitness of striker Olivier Giroud after he made a swift recovery from an ankle injury – although the Frenchman is unlikely to be risked from the start.

Theo Walcott is a major doubt after picking up a groin injury while away with England while Danny Welbeck is facing a late fitness test on a hamstring problem.

Mikel Arteta is back in contention but Laurent Koscielny, Mathieu Debuchy, Mesut Ozil and David Ospina are all still on the sidelines.

United also have their injury problems to deal with as Van Gaal will have to make-do without several of his first team regulars.

Radamel Falcao has been ruled out for two more weeks with a calf injury while Rafael, Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo and Jonny Evans are all miss out.

Daley Blind is facing a spell on the sidelines with a knee injury suffered while away with the Holland squad but Michael Carrick is expected to recover from a minor groin injury.

The good news for United is that Angel Di Maria has been passed fit and David De Gea is also expected to start despite dislocating his finger last week. Luke Shaw should also come through a late fitness check on a minor groin issue.

Likely Line-Ups

Key Man

Alexis Sanchez: The Chilean has settled in well to life in the Premier League and has been in sensational form of late with eight goals in his last six games, so no doubt United will be keeping a close eye on him this weekend.

Predicted Score

Arsenal 2-2 Man Utd: With both clubs weakened in defence we would be forgiven for expecting a few goals tomorrow. United have certainly had the better of the recent meetings between the two sides, losing just once in the previous 14 games, and we can see van Gaal’s men taking something away from the Emirates again tomorrow.
